The common name comes from the berries. In flower, white baneberry looks very similar to red baneberry (Actaea rubra).

species of this plant became infamous when parents made eyes for children’s dolls out of the white Actaea pachypoda berries (which have a black pupil-like spot on one end).

Quite a sight for winter-weary eyes, the 5/8" long flowers are yellow and fragrant and appear in February, lasting several weeks. Borne in small clusters, they each have four long, strap-like petals that curl up in cold weather.

Each finger should have atleast 2 nodes that resemble eyes on a potato; they look like miniature horns. Soak the rhizomes in water overnight. Plant the rhizomes in late winter or early spring.
