C. alopecuroides is a large sedge is rarely found in wet, disturbed sites in Hillsborough, Polk, and Hardee counties. It is native to the Old and New World tropics. Foxtail flatsedge blooms in the summer (Wunderlin, 2003).

Foxtail Grass
Gardeners pass off most of these hardy, undemanding grasses as weeds and pasture forage. But the variegated strains of Alopecurus pratensis make a colorful ground cover.

Bristly foxtail is an annual grass native to Europe, but widely naturalized world-wide. Culms are prostrate and rising up, 10-100 cm long. Leaf-blades are 5-30 cm long, 4-16 mm wide, flaccid. Leaf-blade surface is glabrous, or pilose.

Description
Asparagus meyeri is an evergreen arching perennial that has feathery, needle-like, stems. Foxtail Fern is often thought of as a fern but really it is not a true fern, i.e. it produces seeds rather than spores.

'Iseli Foxtail' (also called 'Foxtail') - The needles at the tips of new branches are much shorter than those at the base, thus the stems resemble "foxtails". The needles are blue and the plant becomes an open tree.

Description
The foxtail palm has one of the most spectacular foliage displays of all palms.

Foxtail or "poker" blossoms create veritable candelabrums for July & August, above the basal leaves of Primula vialii (very commony mispelled P. viallii or P. vialli).

Kniphofia or Hot Poker are similar to Foxtails (Eremurus spp.) and make numerous tubular flowers on showy and ornamental tall flower stalks from a perennial fleshy rootstock. They have nice, grass like foliage in dense rosettes.

The principal varieties are the foxtail, pearl, and barnyard millets and the proso millet, called also broomcorn millet and hog millet. Much millet is grown in China, India, Manchuria, the USSR, and Africa.

These are sometimes called foxtail orchids, because their arching, drooping flower clusters closely set with flowers suggest the furry tail of a fox.

Common summer annual grasses include large crabgrass, goosegrass and giant foxtail. Annual grasses are easy to control if appropriate measures are taken early in the growing season but can quickly become a severe problem if not controlled when small.

In other respects, the tree is like various southwestern "foxtail pines," dense in growth, the shoots set with dark, short needles, five per bundle. The cones which give this species its name are purple-brown and tipped by slender spines or bristles.

Trailing acalypha, plant with small leaves (1-1.5 in long) and unusual foxtail-shaped flowers. Pinch your Acalypha back regularly to keep it bushy and full.

This specimen, found in southern Georgia, was blooming in mid December. The long spiny looking plant in the photo is Foxtail Clubmoss (Lycopodium alopecuroides) another species associated with bogs.
