This Genus is named after the Ancient Greek hero Achilles, whose soldiers used Achillea to treat wounds according to the Iliad.

'Galaxy' - The unusual flowers of this selection have 5-petal-like lobes that are burgundy on the inside due to a wide pigmented band. They are white on the corolla backside, creating an interesting bicolor effect.

Wand Plant (Galax) - C. aphylla is one of the neatest little plants for the rock garden; its white wand-like flowers are in dense spike-like racemes 9 to 15 inches high.

GalaxyThis variety of sweet pea plants flowers at about the same time as the Spencer's variety of sweet pea.

The Galaxy hybrids, of which A. millefolium is a parent, have much stronger stems, larger, 4-5 in (10.2-12.7 cm) flower clusters and come in many different flower colors. They are usually identified with the genus and cultivar name. A.

Galaxy Hybrids' also tall-growing, will carry as many as nine or more florets per stem, but they are not so nicely placed. The shorter type known as `Knee-Hi' grows into a nice bush, needs little support, and will reach a height of 4 ft.

Galax is native to woods from Virginia to Georgia; it has spikes of white blossoms (and is sometimes called wandflower), and its leaves are often used as greens by florists.
