Globe Thistle (Echinops) - A fine hardy plant from S. Russia, 3 to 5 feet high, covered with a silvery down, E. ruthenicus having the flowers blue, in round heads. Thrives in ordinary soil.

Globe Thistle
They form clumps of deeply divided, spiny leaves, which are gray-green above and fuzzy-white beneath.

ECHINOPS Commonly called the Globe Thistle. Bears thistle-like flowering balls blue in colour on stems 1 to 1.5 m (3 to 5 ft) tall from August till September. Look well near gypsophila. My favourite, Ritro.

Midsummer brings more bellflowers plus delphinium, foxtail lily (Eremurus), globe thistle (Echinops exaltata), Shasta daisies, and Veronica.
