Glossy abelia is an easily grown plant that should be located in bright light, or preferably full sun.

Glossy abelia is very adaptable to sun and soil situations. It typically grows best in full sun but will grow fairly well in partial sun situations. Foliage density will decrease as the amount of shade increases.

Finely-textured, glossy green leaves, compact growth and a long blooming season make Abelias attractive shrubs for hedges, screens and bank covers. Abelias are evergreen in warmer climates and semi-deciduous in colder climates.

Description
Abelia x grandiflora is a evergreen to semi-evergreen mounding shrub that can get up to 8 feet tall and 5 feet wide at maturity. This Abelia is a cross between A. chinensis and A. uniflora.

Glossy abelia's glossy green foliage creates a beautiful background for the blossoms and gives the shrub a handsome appearance throughout the year (at least in Zones 8-9 where it is evergreen).

Description:
Glossy Abelia is lightly fragrant and attracts many bees and butterflies when in flower; however, it is best reserved for planting with zone 6a as its northernmost limit, as it thrives in climates with hot summers and mild winters.

Shrub, upright to 8 feet high and arching; glossy, green opposite, simple leaves, reddish bronze in spring and fall. Showy, small, tubular flowers in clusters. Pink sepals remain on stem after petals fall off.
