It is undeniably a wonderful sight to see these statuesque pampas grasses as components of large planting schemes of grasses or mixed perennials.
Grasses from cool climates such as Deschampsia, Festuca, Helictotrichon and Stipa come into growth in late winter and flower before mid-summer and so should be planted in autumn for the best establishment.

Good choices for moist soil are Bowles golden sedge (Carex elata 'Aurea'), C. conica 'Snowline' and C. morrowii cultivars. 'Aurea' is particularly effective when paired with a broader-leafed water plant.
