Grewia occidentalis or Lavender Starflower, a native of South Africa, is an evergreen shrub or small tree that will reach about 9 feet in nature. It makes a great specimen plant when planted in containers.

Grewia (Grewia asiatica) is believed to be reasonably widespread in northern Queensland, with specimens being collected from the Collinsville, Townsville, Mackay, Ayr, Laura and Cooktown districts.

The plant prefers light sandy, medium loamy and heavy clay soils.
