This is my favorite grass. It is a native of Japan, where it prefers shaded woodlands.
Golden Variegated Hakone Grass
This Japanese native is grown for its delicate, bamboo-like, weeping foliage. The slow-spreading, dense clumps are excellent in woodland, Japanese, shady or semi-shady gardens and containers.

Some, such as plume grass (Saccharum ravennae), are best grown as specimen or single plants; others, such as hakone grass (Hakonechloa) or dropseed (Sporobolus), show to best advantage when grouped.
Common among these were the red-leafed Japanese blood grass (Imperata cylindrica) 'Red Baron', green-leafed Hakone grass (Hakonechloa macra), and its golden-variegated form (Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola').
