Hamelia patens (Firebush) - A large shrub that can reach 12 to 15 feet tall but is more often seen growing to 3 to 5 feet tall in California gardens. It has 3 to 8 inch long pointed leaves, held in clusters of threes.

Compact Mexican Firebush
Description
This Firebush selection comes from the Lynn Lowery collection at SFA arboretum. It is a more compact selection reaching only 5-6' at maturity. Hamelia patens flowers late spring to early fall.

Hamelia patens dwarf form
A more compact version of the Mexican Firebush but seems to bloom more frequently than the it's larger cousin. The tubular 1 to 1-1/2" orange blooms are borne from late spring to fall. A rounded woody shrub-like perennial.
