Hemerocallis minor, is also known as Dwarf day lily, Grassleaf Lily. It is a member of the relatively small genus Hemerocallis. The plant grows up to 0.5 m high. Its wide yellow flowers is scentless.

Hemerocallis fulva -- Native to Asia, it has escaped from cultivation and flourished here. It can be distinguished from the many other orange lilies by its flower, which looks upward and has no spots.

HEMEROCALLIS The Day-lily. Has strap-like green foliage, with lily-like flowers freely produced during July and August. Each flower only lasts a day, and is followed by another produced higher up the stem. Grows 600 mm to 1.2 m (2 to 4 ft) high.

The genus Hemerocallis (from the Greek hemera a day and kallos beauty) was so named by Linnaeus in the eighteenth century and placed by him in the Liliaceae (lily family), along with hostas, kniphofias, aloes and the true lilies.

Name: Hemerocallis was derived from the Greek word meaning "beauty" and "day".

Last week in Rogers as I sat in the daylily auction held during the Region 13 meeting of the American Hemerocallis Society, I was amazed by the prices paid for the new hybrids.
