Introduced by Nancy Goodwin of Montrose Nursery in Hillsboro, NC. Apparently a chance crossing between H. 'Palace Purple' and H. americana 'Dale's Strain', planted side by side in her garden.

HEUCHERA A dainty plant which resembles the common London Pride. The foliage is dwarf and compact; the flowers are dainty, minute and bell-like, being carried on slender stems 450 to 600 mm (1½ to 2 ft) high. They may be red or pink in colour.

Tiarella, Heuchera and Heucherella are the main focus of the Olivers' breeding work, so we had planned a day of Tiarella hunting in Wolfpen Hollow--a hauntingly mysterious woodland area near my farm.

Related to heucheras, Tellima grandiflora 'Forest Frost' is a superb addition to the spring woodland garden. Dan Heims of Terra Nova Nursery found this silver-splashed leaf form growing in a native population.

Among the best companions for hostas in the shade are the dicentras, pulmonarias and heucheras. The mulberry-colored lockets and pale glaucous grey lacy leaves of Dicentra 'Bacchanal' and D.

Small, fibrous-rooted plants such as Heuchera, Hosta and Epimedium can be lifted and pulled apart gently. This should produce small clumps for replanting.

The Saxifrage has a well-developed underground root system forstoring carbohydrates, so that they can respond quickly to the cold weather of the tundra. Saxifraga heuchera is one of the few saxifrages used as an ornamental plant.

This shrub can echo the long-lasting spring colour of a purple leafed heuchera, or it can be used for more delicate spring effect with epimediums whose foliage shares the matt veined quality of the leaves of the larger plant.
