Hop Hornbeam (Ostrya) - According to Mr Bean one is a species common to Europe and Asia Minor, another is of E. Asia, and there is one in western and one in eastern N. America.

This lovely Eastern United States native is realated to the heath family and has drooping, white, midsummer flowers. Fall color is yellow, red, or purple. Soil must be well-drained and acid.

Western Hop Hornbeam is a rare tree, found only in a small area of southeastern Utah, northern Arizona, and four scattered areas of southwestern New Mexico, and far western Texas.
