As with other ivies, this plant should never be allowed to grow up the trunks of trees or to climb on wood. Water will vary by species, but most plants do fine with normal watering.
Additional Comments: Galen recommended ground ivy for inflamed eyes, and it has been used in the past to treat lead poisoning in painters.
The photograph is one of the variegated cultivars of English Ivy. Symptoms of ingestion are difficulty in breathing, convulsions, vomiting, paralysis and coma. Dermatitis is rare but can be severe with weeping blisters.
