PREVENTION: Jack-in-the-Pulpit grows in wooded, shaded areas in the spring, so limit animal access to these areas when plants begin to emerge.

Arisaema triphyllum, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Bog onion, Brown dragon, Indian turnip, Wake robin or Wild turnip is a herbaceous perennial plant growing from a corm.

Arisaema triphyllum or "Jack-In-The-Pulpit" is native to moist woodlands from Canada to Florida, and westward to Kansas and Texas. They can be grown outside in Oklahoma if given the right environment.

Jack-in-the-Pulpits or Cobra Lilies are among my favorite shade plants. They're among the most exotic of hardy temperate flowers.

Arisaema triphyllum 'Black Jack' (Perennial Jack-in-the-Pulpit)
I fell to my knees when I first saw this plant at Woodlanders Nursery in South Carolina and visitors to our garden have continued this tradition.

The arum family contains about 1500 species, including skunk cabbage, jack-in-the-pulpit, golden club (Orontium aquaticum), and calla lily.

Symplocarpus foetidus (Araceae) -- This member of the arum family is cousin to "Jack-in-the-Pulpit". Like "Jack", it is edible but I have never tried it for two reasons.

The jack-in-the-pulpit, or Indian turnip (A. triphyllum), has a spadix (jack) enveloped by a purplish-striped spathe (the pulpit).

A favorite of children, Jack-in-the-pulpit is a tuberous perennial producing one or two leaves, each divided into three narrow leaflets.

Its flowers are understated but interesting, and come from the same family that houses Painted Arum and Jack-in-the-Pulpit, ...

Japanese sweet flag is not quite as aromatic as the true sweet flag. Although the sweet flags are in the Jack-in-the-pulpit family, their flowers don't look much like the typical spathe and spadix of most members of the family.
