Hello, I live in Northeast Florida and have a lovely vine which I planted four years ago that had a label of "Japanese Jasmine".

All other Jasminum species are semi-tropical vines, which are best planted in the spring after the danger of frost is past. Later plantings can be successful, if the plants are watered well until established.

Many are popular ornamentals, particularly the (Syringa), true (Jasminum), (Ligustrum), and genera; none of these has species native to the United States. Several indigenous species of (Fraxinus) are valuable for timber in North America.

Jasmine (Jasminum officinale) is a flowery shrub containing white or yellow flowers, native to Mediterranean countries (although there are a considerable number of people that say it comes from India).

Jasminum officinale reaches about 20 feet when mature, so is perfect for climbing over trellis, fences, arches, walls or even a large shrub. It needs to be grown in a sheltered position in cooler areas, in fertile, well drained soil in full sun.

A single flower put in a bowl of water will scent a room. The aroma varies from clone to clone, and has been described by various people as: spicy bananas, port wine, paint thinner, pear drops, or Jasminum Sambac.
