Cercis (Judas Tree)
Cercis are excellent garden shrubs with usually thousand of rosy-pink to purplish flowers in spring. Flowers emerge directly from the stem (cauliflor). For any soil in a sunny place, easy and very robust.
Eastern Redbud, Judas Tree
Spring brings a profusion of white, pink or red flower clusters that bloom as the leaves unfold or just before. Red-brown, flat seedpods that follow in summer last through winter.

Strikingly, flowers are produced along branches and trunk before leaves appear. The related C. siliquastrum is called the Judas tree since Judas Iscariot reportedly hanged himself from one (see "Name derivation" below).
