Shrubs or trees evergreen . Branchlets terete , 3--6 angled , variously oriented, but not in flattened sprays . Leaves opposite in 4 ranks or in whorls of 3.

Juniperus scopulorum 'Tolleson's Weeping' (Tolleson's Blue Weeping Juniper) - A graceful, weeping evergreen tree that grows to 25 feet tall and 12 feet wide. The long bluish-green scale-like foliage hangs from the pendulous branches.

Juniperus procumbens is planted in the highlighted USDA hardiness zones to the left and is not known to widely escape cultivaton.

In 1950, a branch sport from Juniperus 'Meyeri' was found in Holland. It was named J. 'Blue Star' and after being cultivated many years, it proved stable as a low shrub. It doesn't develop leaders like its parent plant.

A bonsai favorite. This slow growing, low spreading juniper has fairly soft, deep green foliage and quickly becomes needle-like. Can be used as a groundcover. Salt tolerant.

Juniperus is often used in the treatment of rheumatism, arthritis and gout, and other arthritic conditions associated with the accumulation of acid waste. Here, it promotes the excretion of uric acid at the kidney.

Cedar rust can defoliate trees and disfigure fruit wherever Juniperus virginiana, the red cedar, or Rocky Mountain cedar, J. scopulorum, is established. After the first eight weeks of the season, the rust threat is over.
