There is some argument over the correct pronunciation of the kalanchoe. Some will argue that it should be ka-LAN-cho while others say kal-an-CO-ee.

Kalanchoe

Comes in various sizes and flower colors: bright red, yellow, orange, salmon, hot pink, white.
A houseplant in all but frost-free climates; give bright light. In summer can be moved outdoors to a partly shaded patio.

Kalanchoe Care
Kalanchoe care is very simple. It is an ideal plant for people who think they have no time to take care of a houseplant. Like a cactus, they need little water and rarely need fertilizer.

Kalanchoe beharensis, or Elephant's Ear Kalanchoe, is a woody, succulent shrub native to Madagascar. Plants are pretty large in stature, reaching 12 feet (3 m) in height under the right conditions.

We recently (late in 2003) obtained a little start of this Southern Madagascar shrublet, Kalanchoe tomentosa "Chocolate Soldier." It prefers to be overlooked rather than overly cared for. It's shown in January freshly planted in a wooden pot.

Kalanchoe, Echeveria, Crassula: Leaf cuttings of succulents should be left a day or two to callus (the cut surface thickens) before potting.

Kalanchoe pinnata. Floppers. A succulent, common. Introduced either by a Captain Stowe in 1813 or in a letter. Allegedly a "good luck" leaf.
