Lacebark elm

Plants LaburnumLactuca sativa

The Lacebark Elm is a fast growing deciduous tree that can get 40-60' in height at maturity with a 25-40' spread. Ulmus parvifolia gets its name because it bark sheds and reveals orange-brown patches, giving the trunk a lacey appearance.

Chinese Elm, Lacebark Elm
Once a popular vase-shaped lawn and street tree, American Elms are plagued by incurable Dutch elm disease and insects. Elms also have shallow, aggressive root systems.

The Chinese or lacebark elm (U. parvifolia) has attractive exfoliating bark that shows colors of gray, green, orange and brown. The bark of other species is not outstanding.
