Larix laricina

This vivid bluish leafed larch has an open, pyramidal habit with a slim trunk. The branches are horizontal with branchlets that droop. The leaves turn yellowish in autumn providing showy color.

Larix decidua is a beautiful conifer when young with horizontal branches and weeping branchlets. As the tree ages, it looses some of its beauty. Larix lose their needles in fall after they turn from a soft green to a buttery yellow.

Larix decidua: European Larch - this European native can grow to 75 feet tall, and is hardy in zones 4-6. It is a high altitude tree, and can even be found at altitudes above 8200 ft. The flowers are tiny - yellow for male and red for female.
