Laurustinus is sometimes deposited on the plant islands of parking lots. Alas, though it is adaptable to poor soils & even seems to prefer gritty unenriched soils, it nevertheless often looks dreadful when negleccted.

Laurustinus (V. tinus): Laurustinus is an upright, rounded evergreen that grows 6 to 12 feet tall, and a bit less in width. Clusters of pink buds open to white flowers between January and early April.

Known Hazards
The foliage can cause skin irritations[1, 11]. A volatile oil in the leaves can cause sneezing and headaches if inhaled[11].

The true laurel—that of history and classical literature—is Laurus nobilis, called also bay and sweet bay. It is native to the Mediterranean, where to the ancients it symbolized victory and merit and was sacred to Apollo.

Since Viburnum tinus species and cultivars have laurel like leaves, its common name is laurustinus. For hedging this evergreen broadleaf shrub is a superior alternative to laurel.
