Here in Zone 6 (SE PA), I like Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, a.k.a. Plumbago or Leadwort.
Leadwort Leadwort, sometimes called plumbago, is a late summer and fall gem that is easily forgotten the rest of the year. Its green foliage is fairly nondescript until the blue flowers open on red stems in late Autumn.
Leadwort is a genus, Plumbago is a genus of 10-20 species of flowering plants in the family Plumbaginaceae, native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the world.
Leadwort makes an attractive groundcover around rocks or cascading over stone walls, and is a good replacement for evergreen English ivy or vinca. However, leadwort is only semi-evergreen in zone 9, and will be deciduous in colder zones.

Plumbago zeylanica, or White Leadwort is native to SE Asia. It is a much branched, evergreen shrub that reaches about 6 feet (2 meters) in nature. Dark green leaves are ovate to 6 inches (30 cm) long by half as wide.
