Coarse-looking plant with interesting foliage, spikes or bunches of yellow blooms. Like moist soil/full sun-part shade. Forms clumps, can be aggressive. Zone 4.

Ligularia is a perennial for moist soils. It has large leaves and spikes of yellow, daisylike flowers. Most cultivars of leopard plant have shiny green leaves variegated with irregular creamy white or yellow markings.

Description:
Ligularia has several species, hybrids, and cultivars, but all need to be kept in the shade with constant moisture or they will wilt with the heat of the day in Summer.

Water regularly - in our shade garden the Ligularia are our "irrigation indicators" as they dry out and wilt before anything else. We need to water our well established clumps every 2 to 3 weeks.

Great long-lasting color for shade or partly sunny borders. Provides a nice textural contrast to plants with large, broad leaves like Heuchera, Hostas, and Ligularia. Astible can also be grown in containers.

That's where she planted water-loving perennials such as globeflowers (Trollius chinensis), Ligularia, Rodgersia, and umbrella plants (Darmera peltata). Standard white callas and Japanese irises also do well in damp soil.

The shimmering leaves will look outstanding in spring and makes a great addition to shade plants available for the perennial garden and would look great with a dark leaf plant such at Ligularia 'Britt Marie Crawford.

Ligularia. Happy at water's edge so damp conditions no problem.
Lobelia cardinalis types. Have photographed these, year after year in boggy conditions.
Lysimachia nummularia. Not to be waterlogged, but enjpoys a damp spot.
Lythrum salicara.

On 'Frances Williams', the leaves are irregularly variegated with greenish-yellow for a very bold effect. An American cultivar that is one of the most popular of all hostas. Effective when planted alongside ligularia 'Gregynog Gold'.
