Lime; Linden (Tilia) - Mostly summer-leafing trees of northern and temperate regions, often cut into ugly shapes in continental gardens.

Iresine is a group of tender perenials grown mainly for their colorful foliage. They are frost tender, requiring minimum temperatures of 50-59 degrees F.

American linden, also known as basswood, has enormous leaves up to 8 inches long, while the distinctive bracts from which the flowers and fruit hang are not only larger but look less like leaves than those of the little-leaf linden (T. cordata).

LEAVES: Alternate, simple, heart-shaped, 4"-7" long, shiny, dark green above, tufts of rusty hair beneath, margins sharply toothed.

Linden Viburnum (V. dilatatum): Linden viburnum grows to 8 to10 feet tall and not quite as wide. Growth habit is open and upright in the species. Selections are often denser. The nearly round, gray-green leaves are 2 to 5 inches in diameter.

American linden 'Redmond' illustrates the deeply furrowed bark typical of this species.
Culture
Light: Full sun to partial shade.
Moisture: Not at all drought tolerant, American basswood does best in moist, but not water logged soil.

Many surviving linden trees may sometimes retain names Thie-Linde, Thing-Linde or Tilly-Linde, but often simply Dorflinde "village linden". The oldest of them is in Schenklengsfeld, Hesse, planted in the 9th century, in the time of Louis the Younger.

Zufälligerweise hat englisch lime (auch linden) noch eine dritte Bedeutung „Linde“ (Tilia spp , Malvaceae). Dieser Baumname hat viele Verwandte in germanischen, baltischen und slavischen Sprachen, z.B.

In the USA it is known as a linden tree. It is the tallest broad-leaved tree in Britain. In the past it was found growing throughout the old growth forests of Europe.

Medium or part shade is the shade cast by evergreens or dense, deciduous trees such as maples or lindens. Area under decks or stairwells, or in south-facing but deeply recessed entries, also may be classified as medium shade.

Insects/disease: Host to numerous insects including bud miners, aphids, borers, and defoliators such as the gypsy moth, tent caterpillar, linden looper, and cankerworms.

The two most popular Tillandsias have grassy leaves like Billbergia, but their flowers are quite different (Tillandsia cyanea and Tillandsia lindenii).

tiliaceus are similar in shape to those of the linden tree, whose Latin name is Tilia. A group of 22 closely related species in the genus Hibiscus, including H. tiliaceus, has been recently reclassified by Malvaceae taxonomist Paul A.
