Gaura lindheimeri (Gaura) - This is a wispy, upright 2-4 foot high, 2 foot wide perennial from the Southwest U.S - primarily Texas.
Gaura lindheimeri is native to the Mexico-USA border area, it forms a clump and reaches up to 4 feet in height and 3 feet in width. Whirling Butterflies has a very long flowering period (from mid spring to autumn).
Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink' was developed then introduced to gardening in 1994 by Baldassare Mineo of the Siskiyou Rare Plant Nursery.

lindheimer 'Autumn Glow' has the leaf and plant shape of M. rigens but a flower stalk and seed head reminiscent of M. capillaris 'Regal Mist', although not as showy. The flower stalk turns a striking golden color starting in October.

Lindheimer (1801-1879), who collected plants in Texas during the 19th century. It is new to cultivation, first being introduced by Parks Seeds about a dozen years ago as a filler plant for the perennial border.

Lindheimer near New Braunfels, Texas in 1850. Intermountain Flora notes that this first specimen (the "type" specimen) is in an isolated population, for it has never been found less than 300 kilometers from New Braunfels".
Discussion
Less common is Globe Berry (I. lindheimeri), found in Texas and southern Oklahoma. Its leaf divisions are much broader, and the berry is 1-1 1/2" (2.5-4 cm) wide.
