Description
Liriope spp. are a group of grass like plants consists of a clumping form of evergreen perennials native to Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, and China.

Liriope spicata 'Silver Dragon' (Variegated Lily Turf) - Spreading by underground runners, this low growing perennial reaches 1 foot tall and easily spread 2 feet wide or more.

Liriope - sometimes called "monkeygrass" - is not a grass at all but a member of the lily family.

Liriope is available in several varieties including some with white and yellow variegation. 'Monroe White' has white flowers while 'Big Blue' has intense violet-blue blossoms.

There are many other varieties & species of Liriope but the differences in appearance & behavior tend to be pretty subtle. The one that spreads most rapidly is L.

Liriope muscari has rush-like evergreen leaves and spikes of small pretty violet flowers.
Geranium macrorrhizum ‘Album' has scented leaves which colour in autumn, and white flowers in early spring. (Perennial, sun or shade.) ...

For late summer the gardener has added Liriope, with white and purple blooms, and perhaps some of the white-edged Hostas, with flower spikes of similar colors.

We then planted several liriope as a border, a few small shrubs along with some annuals for flowers throughout the area and put more garden/path type lights allowing the lights to softly illuminated the plants.

In Liriope, etc. (Ophiopogoneae), the seeds, with their fleshy testa (see above), are exposed early in development, so they are semi-gymnospermous.
