Lithodora lith-o-DO-ra di-FEW-sa
Broadleaf evergreen, herbaceous, prostrate ground cover, 10-15 x 60-90 cm. Leaves alternate, simple, 6-25 mm long, narrow, hairy on both side. Flowers 13 mm long, deep blue (iridescent), at the ends of stems.

 


Lithodora is a stunning little shrub, which, for years, I assumed was a perennial. I finally surrendered and brought some into my own garden.

Lithodora oleifolium

This is one of the finest rock garden plants. It prefers a sunny location. Very pale blue, funnel-shaped flowers renew themselves all summer long. Evergreen leaves are oval, pointed, and silky green.

Lithodora diffusa (formerly Lithospermum diffusum)) is a hardy evergreen creeping groundcover originating in southern Europe & requiring only a little attention.

(2011); Lithodora is polyphyletic (Thomas et al. 2008). Trigonotidae are to be completely dismembered (Weigend et al. 2010), the two South American genera that used to be placed in the tribe being sister to the Eurasian Boragineae.
