Little Bluestem
An upright and clump forming native grass with spiky blades of blue or green. Wispy silvery flowers occur in late summer, followed by a spectacular display of fall color changing from green and orange to deep burgundy.
Little bluestem is a tidy, finely textured clumping grass with a blue-green summer color. Its silvery seed heads rise to a height of nearly 2 feet in late summer and are at their best when backlit in the morning or afternoon sun.

Species in the grass family (Poaceae) that has narrow, grass-like foliage with leaf veins typically parallel to one another, and leaf margins that are most often smooth.
Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium): This native grass, also called broom sedge, grows to 3 feet tall, with fluffy flower spikes in mid fall held well through the winter. Upright, light green foliage turns orange tan in fall.
Little Bluestem Grass forms dense clumps of fine textured foliage. The flower stem will grow to 30" tall before displaying its burgundy flower spray.
Little bluestem is grown in wildflower meadows and rock gardens, along roadsides, and in various other naturalistic landscape situations.
