Description
Pinus taeda is a Texas Native to the eastern portion of the state. In fact this is what most East Texans think of when they hear Pine.

Mature Height: Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) will grow to 90 feet, usually smaller under landscape conditions (40 to 50 feet).

Leaf: Evergreen needles, 6 to 9 inches long, with (usually) three yellow-green needles per fascicle.

Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) is one of the three "southern yellow pines". Longleaf pine (P. palustris) and slash pine (P. elliottii) are the other two.

This species differs from loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) by its shorter cones up to 3 1/2 inches long.
Habitat: Acid swamps, shallow ponds, boggy depressions in pinelands, flatwoods.
Habit: Tree up to 75 feet tall; trunk diameter up to 2 feet.

Plants such as loblolly pines and southern magnolias have a tremendous surface area because they're evergreen. A leaf from my southern magnolia encrusted with a trifling quarter-inch of ice yielded 2 ounces of water when the ice melted.

Astronaut Stuart Roosa carried 500 loblolly pine, redwood, sweet gum, sycamore and Douglas fir tree seeds in a canister in his personal kit. After they got back, Stan Krugman of the U.S.
