This 6 foot tall flowering shrub is grown not only for its showy, fragrant, fringe-like, ruby red flowers, but also its lush, green or burgundy foliage which makes it perfect for large scale borders.

Loropetalum is a finely textured evergreen shrub.
Nihonkaki Nursery in Kawaguchi City, Japan, provided the first pink-flowering burgundy-leafed varieties of Fringe Flowers (Loropetalum chinense var rubrum) to the U.S. National Arboretum in the late 1989.

Dwarf Loropetalum
Compact evergreen shrub with deep burgundy young foliage color that turns dark green as plant matures. Pink strap-like flowers cover the arching branches in spring.
Loropetalum is hardy in zones 7b or 8a, but even the experts aren't sure just how hardy the plant is because it's only been widely planted in the Eastern landscape for about 10 years.
