Mache
A salad green that has small dark green, velvety leaves with a rich, sweet flavor, similar to hazelnut. In addition to salads, this green can also be steamed and served as a vegetable.

 


Corn Salad (Mache)
This spring and fall green, much prized in Europe, is also called lamb's lettuce, mache or fetticus. Its leaves have a subtle taste and mix well in a salad with more sharply flavored greens.

Pliny recommended Fennel for 'dimness of vision', while Gerard wrote 'Fennel seede drunke assuageth the paine of the stomache, and the wambling of the same, or desire to vomite, and breaketh winde'.

Initially, beach vitex stems are wounded using a machete. A 5.25 % solution of imazapyr is applied to the wounded areas of the stems. After a period of 6 months, all stems are removed.

Mechanical techniques include hand-pulling, digging, root-cutting, use of weed eaters, axes, machetes, bulldozers, fire and flooding. Removal by hand is generally recommended for small infestations of saplings under 1-inch diameter.
