Mushrooms
While mushrooms and toadstools are fungi rather than weeds, they can still be unsightly and unwelcome guests on an otherwise pristine lawn. They grow rapidly in rich, moist soils, but most varieties of mushroom will not harm the lawn.

MUSHROOMS
Many mushrooms are similar in appearance to each other, even though some may be poisonous and others edible. Positive identification can only be achieved through spore testing.

Mushrooms
The mushroom is just one of a very large, diverse group of organisms called fungi. It is similar to a plant but lacks chlorophyll, so they cannot produce food for themselves through photosynthesis.

Mushrooms
Fungi like mushrooms and puffballs procreate, sexually or asexually, by means of spores and they are the fruiting bodies of the plant. The spores grow long hyphs, or cylinders, which branches and re-branches into web-like myceliums.

Mushroom compost. This is often sterilized. It is alkaline and therefore particularly good for acid soils. Excellent mulching material. Not to be used if acidity needs to be retained for other plants.
Moist peat. This contains a little nitrogen only.

Mushrooms are fast-growing fungi (they are not plants). They grow in dark, damp places and reproduce via spores.
