Additional Comments: Myrrh has been used for centuries as an ingredient in incense, perfumes, and for embalming and fumigations in Ancient Egypt. In folk tradition it was used for muscular pains and in rheumatic plasters.

Myrrh is a common ingredient of toothpowders, and is used with borax in tincture, with other ingredients, as a mouth-wash.
The Compound Tincture, or Horse Tincture, is used in veterinary practice for healing wounds.

MEDICINAL: Myrrh is a powerful antiseptic, being a remedy second only to echinacea. It is a strong cleaning and healing agent, soothing the body and speeding the healing process. It is often used with goldenseal.

Myrrh is a large shrub (or small tree) indigenous to Northeast Africa, and collected in Southern Arabia and Iran. The part of this plant used medicinally is the resin. Myrrh is referred to in the Bible.

Sweet Cicely (Myrrhis) - M. odorata is a graceful native plant, with a peculiar but grateful odour and sweet-tasting stems, 2 to 3 feet high, with white flowers in early summer, in compound umbels.

The genus Smyrnium was named from the Greek smurna (myrrh), because of the aroma of the seeds. There are 7 or 8 species of Smyrnium, all Eurasian biennials or monocarpic perennials.

Myrtle (Tender Perennial) Medicinal. In Greek legends, Myrrha was the favorite of the priestess Venus. Aromatic and can be used as an anticeptic.

Profusely borne in clusters throughout the summer, they create a cloud of rich scent that is a blend of myrrh and lemon. Foliage is dark green and semi-glossy. The canes have few thorns.
