Terrestrial orchid with 7-11, narrow-elliptic leaves forming a basal rosette, each 1.5-2.5 cm long and 5-8 mm wide. Flowers 3-8 on stems to 40 cm high, with 3-5 closely sheathing stem leaves.

Orchid tree grows 20-40' tall and 10-20' wide with a spreading crown of briefly deciduous leaves which are 4-6" across and rounded with lobed ends and heart shaped bases. The leaves are shaped a little like a cow's hoof.
