Oriental Poppy
Oriental poppies add old-fashioned charm to gardens. These plants usually are easy to grow, but they prefer sunny areas and soil that's well drained. The plants are hardy, and do well in mountain gardens at high elevations.
120 (150)cm, Oriental Poppy is a perennial species with very large bright orange flower cups above a large, dark green leafed basal rosette. Flowers are followed by large seedpods which are used for decoration purposes.

The most frequently cultivated are the Oriental poppy (P. orientale), usually bearing a large scarlet flower with a purplish black base, and the corn poppy (P. rhoeas) and its variety, the Shirley poppy.
Oriental poppy (P. orientale), Arctic poppy (Papaver croceum), and corn poppy (P. rhoeas) are common in cultivation. California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is in the same family, but a different genus.
