Ornamental grasses - add an extra dimension to the garden
Ornamental grass is coming into its own as a decorative element. It brings movement, sound and texture into the garden, elements that are not readily found in most other garden plants.

Ornamental grasses can be used as fillers or specimens, border plants or background plantings, as ground covers or screens, or they may be grown as container plants.

Ornamental grasses add unique texture to the landscape. Soft, mounding grasses such as fountaingrass look great with plants that have a bolder texture, for example.

Grasses vary in color, size, and growth patterns and can add a nice sense
of movement to your landscaping.

Other ornamental grasses may get bigger and have more stature in the landscape, but none will present a more appealing display when the light conditions are just right.

Some varieties of ornamental grasses can be dried for indoor decorations.
Propagation:
Ornamental Grass are grown from seed. They can be directly seeded into your flower garden or started indoors for transplanting later.

Miscanthus is a group of ornamental grasses that make excellent perennials. They are clump forming plants with reed-like stems and leaves that are narrow and arch to the ground.

Indiangrass is recommended for use as an accent in landscapes where North American native species are preferred over exotic ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus, fountaingrass or pampas grass.

'Autumn Joy' looks great with ornamental grasses.
Noteworthy characteristics: The long-blooming flowers change from deep pink to copper. Attracts butterflies.

Ornamental Grasses, here defined, are the perennial ornamental plants in the Grass Family (Poaceae) excluding turf grass and bamboo.

One of the most popular of the ornamental grasses, its airy plumes of flowers glisten in the morning dew and sway in gentle breezes. The handsome, arching, clumping foliage of some varieties provide rich fall foliage color.

For drama almost anything else would be better, but it is a perfect year-round substitute for small ornamental grasses in any location that is mildly wet to boggy.
