Virginian Papaw (Asimina) - A N. American shrub, or low tree of the Custard Apple family. A. triloba forms a small tree, with dull purple flowers, about 2 inches across. It bears fruit eaten by the inhabitants of the Southern States; hence the name.

The pawpaw, or papaw (Asimina triloba), one of the few temperate species remaining from the more extensive range of the family in the past, is a shrub or small tree of E North America which also bears a sweet edible fruit.
