Paperbark Maple
Maple trees include a broad spectrum of types, sizes, shapes and foliage. They are evergreen or deciduous, shrubby or lofty, with deeply lobed or finely cut leaves.

The paperbark trees have very interesting bark that tears off readily and is composed of sheets of thin "paper" interleaved with thin sheets of a spongerubbery substance. Undoubtedly this bark plays a role as thermal insulation.

The paperbark maple is an ornamental tree with peeling, copper-brown bark; its leaves start orange in spring, then turn successively pinkish-brown, yellow and deep green through summer and finally end up deep red in autumn.

ECOLOGICAL THREAT: Paperbark tree is an aggressive invader that spreads rapidly, converting native plant communities such as sawgrass marshes, wet prairies, and aquatic sloughs into impenetrable paperbark thickets.
