Periwinkle (Vinca) - Perennial trailers, hardy and vigorous anywhere. The well-known V. major (common Periwinkle) is useful for banks or masses of rootwork, and also for rocky places or by wood walks.

Periwinkle is native to Europe and Asia Minor and has been cultivated since ancient times. In some parts of the country, it has escaped cultivation with one Michigan nurseryman calling it the "kudzu of the north.

Common Periwinkle
Creeping evergreen ground cover, forming a dense tangled mat of long stems and elliptical leaves, rooting at intervals. Pale blue to purple flowers in spring. An aggressive grower, can be invasive.

Growing periwinkle plant in a sunny spot outdoors for the summer will give it more blooming power.

Vinca or Periwinkle is a prolific heat and drought tolerant annual, perfect for hot, dry areas. It's easy to grow, and requires little or no attention. A grower once reported that he has grown Vinca in the same location for 30 years.

The common periwinkle, Vinca minor, is a vining groundcover, & moderately invasive. But we had some that went beyond moderation.

One of the most reliable, non-stop blooming plants for the hot sun, it produces Phlox-like flowers in many shades and combinations of pink, mauve, white, red and rose.
