There are three native bamboos in the U.S. See the Arundinaria gigantea, switch cane, for more information. Other bamboos are non-native.

Of the many other species of Phyllostachys & the several other variants of P. nigra per se, I could not find a good discription of any that seemed even a secondary possibility.

Phyllostachys sp., Sasa sp, and Sasaella sp. In addition, there are a number of things that look like bamboo, and are called bamboo, but aren't, like Pogonatherum crinitum ("German bamboo") and Peperomia 'Bamboo Stalks.
