London Planetree (Plantanus x acerifolia)
This hybrid is the result of a cross between P. occidentalis and P. orientalis. It is sometimes listed as P. x hybrida.

Large, introduced, sometimes invasive shade tree with widely spreading, rounded crown and large, paired, palmately 5-lobed leaves. Height: 60' (21 m). Diameter: 2' (0.6 m).

London planetree (Platanus X acerfolia), a popular street tree throughout the world, is a hybrid between the American sycamore and the oriental planetree (P. orientalis).

Also called Buttonwood or American planetree, the wood is used for furniture, butcher blocks and flooring. The London planetree, P. x acerifolia Willd., with 2-4 fruits per stalk, is commonly planted as a shade tree in urban areas.

Description:
The lateral buds of Planetree occur on zig-zag stems, with no true terminal bud present.
