Description:
Eastern Redcedar may occur in nearly pure stands in fields and along roadsides in central portions of the Eastern United States. While this species has several cultivars, it is among the lesser-utilized Junipers in modern landscapes.

Badly spotted leaves fall prematurely, and defoliation can be heavy. Redcedars (Juniperus virginiana) are the alternate host. Crabapples are subject to several canker diseases.

They are commonly known as arborvitae (from Latin for tree of life) or thujas; several species are widely known as cedar but because they are not true cedars (Cedrus) it has been recommended to call them redcedars or whitecedars.
