Rocket (Hesperis) - H. matronalis is a popular old garden plant, and among the most desirable of hardy flowers. It bears showy, varied, and fragrant flower-spikes.

 


ROCKET SALAD
Rocket salad, also known as arvgula, roquette, salad rocket, salad roquette, roquette salad and tira, is a leafy green, grown as an annual. Leaves are compound and have a spicy, peppery flavor.

Sea rocket grows on sandy beaches above the high tide line. The stems and leaves are fleshy.

'Rocket' is a quality cultivar bearing strong orange-yellow flowers with light yellow bloches. This shrub is a deciduous with elliptical, mid-green leaves.

The Rocket easily rises to four feet, taller counting the flower spikes, & other varieties are taller still. Just so long as it is kept moist, it is hardy as the devil.

Although sea rocket can sometimes be found at some distance from the water's edge, even on perched dunes, it most often occurs on the beach strand where its seeds are typically deposited.

Rocket
The name rocket is used for at least 20 species of herbs, mostly members of the mustard family CRUCIFERÆ (BRASSICACEÆ). These species vary from well known and widely cultivated to obscure and rarely or never grown.

The mustard family includes weeds such as yellow rocket, black mustard (fig. 34), tansy mustard, peppergrass, and pennycress. These are found in fields, pastures, lawns, roadsides, waste areas, and sometimes in woods.

It has a hot, peppery, sharp taste and is a very popular ingredient for Italian dishes. The seeds of the plant are used for flavoring oils. Arugula is also known as arrugula, rugola rugula, rocket, Italian cress, roquette, and rucola.
