Cos/Romaine Lettuce
A lettuce that originated on the Aegean island of Cos. It grows in a head of long narrow leaves that have a crunchy rib down the center and a mild tangy flavor.
Romaine or cos is less commonly grown by gardeners but is a very nutritious lettuce that deserves attention. It too is relatively easy to grow, forming upright heads with rather wavy, attractive leaves.
The cos or romaine lettuces have long, broad, upright leaves that form loose heads. They take longer to mature and are more heat tolerant than other kinds of lettuce.
Lactuca sativa 'Romaine' Leaf Lettuce One of the quickest and easiest vegetables to grow, lettuce thrives in cool, moist weather. Varieties include Iceberg, Green or Red Leaf, tender Boston or Bibb, and upright crisp Romaine.
It is a short romaine lettuce with bright green leaves which have a slightly floppy habit. The leaves are savoyed and speckled with reddish brown spots. A well-grown head generally measures 16 inches across.

Lettuce - Plant a type of Romaine and and Boston lettuce seed for two different types of lettuce. I suggest two sowings, about July late and August 1st.
