Rose Campion (Agrostemma) - A. coronaria is a beautiful old flower, of the Pink family, hardy and free, most at home in chalky and dry soils.
Rose campion is a member of the carnation family with a circumpolar range in the mountains of the northern hemisphere. In North America, it grows in the arctic region and down the spine of the Rockies.

It seeds true every year, although I do not have another variety like the Rose campion (top most photo) in the garden for it to cross with, so it keeps its white flowers.

Rose campion is an erect, many-branched biennial (or short-lived perennial) with softly wooly silver-gray leaves and stems.

Rose Campion (Lychnis coronaria) is an evergreen biennial in our low-maintenance roadside sungarden. The genus name means "Lamp" & alludes to the ancient use of the felt-like leaves as lamp wicks.
50 (70)cm, Rose Campion has large purple flowers over densely hairy, silvery white leaves. Very attractive color, excellent plant for any soil in half-shade to full sun.
