Marsh Mallow, Rose Mallow
Latin: Hibiscus moscheutos
My marsh mallow has been in bloom for several weeks and is causing its usual gaudy display. It is covered with bright red blooms as large as a pie pan and is a real show stopper.

( Anne Arundel Rose Mallow )
Upright, woody-based perennial with toothed, deeply lobed, 3 to 9 inch long, maple-shaped leaves. Leaf undesides have soft white hairs. Single, large, up to 9 inch wide flowers put on a spectacular display in summer.

Some 200 or more species of shrubs and trees, as well as annuals, herbaceous perennials, and subshrubs. Leaves alternate, palmately veined, with short petioles.

The giant rose mallow buds emerge from fuzzy green buds, then bursting into huge blossoms that last but a day. Click to download the bud or click here to download the blossom (both images are 800x600).

Crimsoneyed Rose Mallow
Huge blooms literally swirl open to reveal brush strokes of pink, rose and cranberry red on silky, bright white petals. Tidy, compact plants enhance the otherworldly size of these 8" wide flowers.

70 (120), Rose Mallow is an annual species with most ornamental, quite large, bright rose, satin-like flower cups above heartshaped leaves on a tall, freely branching stem. Native of open spots in S Europe and the Mediterranean.
