Rubus strigosus, the American Red Raspberry or American Raspberry, is a species of Rubus native to much of North America.

A breath of fresh air and a chance to escape from the family for a while means that I often take a short walk after Sunday lunch.
This time the family were my wife's cousins and the town was Charlottesville Virginia.

Semi-evergreen or deciduous shrub, shoot to 3 m long, somewhat climbing, nearly thornless.

Rubus is the Latin word for bramble. The species name parviflorus, meaning small flowered, is a poor name choice, since the flower is bigger than all the other flowers in the genus.

Leaf: Alternate, pinnately compound leaf with 3 to 7 serrated leaflets, 5 to 8 inches long, green above and nearly white below, very fine prickles or glandular hairs on petiole.

Sometimes in dense patches, sometimes sparsely scattered, Wild Raspberries are common in the San Juans and other mountains of the Four Corners area.

Rubus australis is a vigorous and thorny evergreen climber. The juvenile, oval, toothed leaves are 0.4-1.2 in (1-3 cm) long, and arranged into three, four or five parts. The adult, oval, toothed leaves are 1.

Rubus phoenicolasius Maxim
NATIVE RANGE: Japan, Korea and China.
DESCRIPTION: Wineberry, or wine raspberry, is a typical species in the genus Rubus, which contains blackberry and raspberry.

Rubus parviflorus is a near relative of raspberries. It is a particularly welcome garden shrub because it has sweet tasty berries but no thorns & does not grow large & rampant. It forms a shrub of about six feet high & wide.

Rubus argutus is a flowering, perennial, wetland plant that is commonly found in wet hammocks, pond margins, and titi swamps from the northern coast south to the central peninsula of Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).

Blackberries are classified botanically as Rubus, a genus that also includes raspberries. Blackberries may be called dewberries in some areas.
