Rush (Juncus) - Water-side or marsh plants, generally with long round leaves. J. effusus spiralis is a very singular plant, whose spreading tufts of leaves, instead of growing straight, are twisted in a cork-screw form.

Rush fuirena is an emersed plant commonly found growing in fresh and brackish marshes and lake and pond margins throughout Florida. It blooms from spring to fall. Five species of Fuirena occur in Florida (Wunderlin, 2003).

Although 'Gold Rush' appears to grow well in full sun, like many gold foliage plants it will probably benefit from partial shade.

Metasequoia 'Gold Rush' keeps its coloring well into summer. It then turns orange-brown in fall, when it sheds its needles. In spring, the needles return an almost chartreuse yellow color.

Juncus effusus 'Unicorn' or Unicorn Soft Rush is a fairly new evergreen, perennial, hybrid rush developed by the University of British Columbia Botanical Gardens.

Glossy pale green and cream variegated, grass-like foliage. Thrives in wet places or with roots submerged in shallow water. Soil should remain moist for most vigourous growth. Can be used in a container.

The rush family
Though found worldwide, the rushes are a small family of only 10 genera and less than 400 species. Most are perennial herbs, growing primarily in wet or damp habitats in cool temperate and sub arctic regions.

'Gold Rush' and 'Ogon' - These two gold-foliaged forms may, in fact, be the same. The plants produce yellow needles that are especially bright when young. Growth is slower than the species, and the mature size will be smaller.

- Don't rush things. You'll know your daffodils are ready to bring into the light when shoots begin to emerge. Then, over the first week, gently acclimatize your daffodils to increasingly stronger light levels.
