Savory is an appreciated spicy herb used to spice some foods, in the food industry, to prepare pickles and in the pharmaceutical industry to obtain some drugs.

 


Winter Savory is a dwarf, hardy, perennial, glabrous or slightly pubescent under shrub, also a native of Southern Europe, and it has been known in Great Britain since 1562.

Satureja (Savory)
Satureja covers mostly aromatic perennials sub shrubs of great medicinal value. For sunny positions in the rock garden or any sunny spot in any loamy soil.
Sow flat from early spring to summer. Transplant in summer to autumn.

Savory Culinary and Medicinal. According to lore, the satyrs lived in meadows of savory, thus implying that it was the herb that made them passionate.

Savory (Winter) (Satureja montana)
Description
Winter savory has dark green, shiny, pointed leaves much stiffer in texture than summer savory. It is a woody perennial plant growing to 2 feet in height with small white or lavender flowers.

Savory-Scented Thyme (the English name I give it) grows from east-central and eastern Europe to southwest Asia and the Caucasus. The 1779 epithet pannonicus means from Hungary.

Winter savory (Satureja montana): Winter savory is a shrub-like perennial that grows to be about 1 foot tall. The leaves are gathered before flowering to season beans and meats. Clip often to encourage flavorful new growth.

Usage
