Despite the common name, Cephalaria gigantea is not a member of the Scabiosa Genus. Cephalaria gigantea is a herbaceous perennial that forms a clump of deeply lobed, mid-green leaves.
Scabiosa, rock cress, dwarf phlox, alyssum and aubretia are companion plants to contribute color - just make sure they don't swamp the rhizomes of the bearded irises.
Double pincushion flowers of deep violet crimson, resembling scabiosa, tops upright, bushy mound of deeply divided foliage. Prefers well drained soil. Flowers are excellent for cutting and drying. Good naturalizer.
